We told you our side of the Blonde Perfecting Purple Shampoo story—why we made it, what makes it different, and what we think you’ll love the most. But we get it. Sometimes you want to hear from someone who’s actually tried it! So we reached out to a few of our favorite blondes to share the Blonde Perfecting Purple Shampoo experience in their own words. Today, we’re kicking things off with Olivia Rink.
So, tell us about your hair. What color is it and what was your journey to that color?
My current (and ideal!) color is when my natural caramel hair color mixes in perfectly with my creamy blonde highlights. If you’re blonde—or have been in the past—I’m sure you can relate to the struggle of trying to find your perfect shade. After years of trying different colorists and products, I’ve found two things to be key: find a stylist you trust who’s familiar with how your hair reacts to color and stick to a purple shampoo you love!
Aside from color, what is your hair like?
Bleach has definitely taken a toll on the health of my hair over the years, which is why it’s been so important for me to incorporate my natural hair color in with my dyed highlights. This has kept my hair looking shiny and healthy while maintaining the vibrant color I aim for. There are some positives to the bleach though, it’s always given my hair great bod—especially in my roots right after a fresh highlight.
What are your primary concerns about your hair color?
Since my natural color has always had a little bit of a caramel tint to it, I’ve had to be mindful to not let it cross over to the brassy side. Purple shampoo has been key to keeping my color on the cooler side. Also, because my hair is so long, keeping it healthy has always been a main concern of mine. A combination of weekly hair masks, a healthy diet, soft brushing, a good colorist, and regular trims have all contributed to my hair’s overall health.
Have you used a purple shampoo before?
I was hesitant to use purple shampoo in the past due to a few horror stories I’d heard…and I guess that was enough to keep me away. But, because of the trust I have with the Moroccanoil brand from using and loving their products for YEARS, there was no hesitation when they came out with their own purple shampoo. I knew it was something I could trust because of all the success I’ve had with their other products that have taken care of my hair for so many years.
How long have you been testing Blonde Perfecting Purple Shampoo?
I’ve been using it for the past two months to brighten up my color while I’ve been staying at home and unable to go to the salon. It’s truly been such a lifesaver during this time. The before/after results are clear proof that this product works wonders, and now I recommend this purple shampoo to all my fellow blondes.
From start to finish, tell us about how you use Blonde Perfecting Purple Shampoo.
The first step is to make sure your hair is completely wet in the shower. I use the Blonde Perfecting Purple Shampoo like a normal shampoo, building up a foamy lather that covers my entire head. I found that 3 minutes is the perfect amount of time to let the product work on my hair before washing it out. I follow with the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Conditioner and then a couple pumps of Moroccanoil Treatment Light on my towel-dried hair. For a visual, check out my video here that takes you through each step!
How often do you plan to use a purple shampoo in the future?
I’m planning to just monitor my blonde color and use it as often as I need it! Once you get your color to where you want it, I think a good rule of thumb is to use it once or twice a month to keep your color fresh and brass free.
What about Blonde Perfecting Purple Shampoo stood out to you?
The ArganID element is what stood out to be about this product. The main reason I even felt comfortable using a purple shampoo is because this product is made to simultaneously repair and seal the hair cuticle while correcting your color.
How does your color look now?
Bright and natural, like I just left the salon even though I haven’t left the house! I love how it removed any brassy tones and left my blonde color looking “creamy” but not white.
Any advice for someone considering trying a purple shampoo?
Baby steps! If you’re nervous to try purple shampoo for the first time, start slow. Leave the product on your hair for slightly less than the recommended time. You can always reapply in your next shower.
